Virtual office FAQs

Are virtual offices legal?

Yes. Providing registered office or business addresses as a business is a ‘company service’ requiring a Trust or Company Service Provider (TCSP) licence from the Companies Registry; operating without one is a criminal offence. SetupHK holds licence TC009022, verifiable on the public TCSP register.

What is a virtual office?

A virtual office rents a business address from a licensed firm, for use as a registered office, business registration address or correspondence address, without a physical office.

What is a virtual office

How much does a virtual office cost?

Fees depend on use, rental term and support services. WhatsApp us to enquire; we will set out the services and a quotation.

Can my home be the registered office?

Yes, if it is in Hong Kong. But the registered office is public on Companies Registry records, and mail is sent there. To keep your home address private, use a business address.

Address requirements

Must the address be a place of business?

No. The Companies Registry states the registered office need not be a place of business and can differ from where the company works.

How do I change the company address?

Limited companies must notify the Companies Registry of a registered office change on Form NR1 within 15 days. Business address changes go to the IRD in writing within 1 month; Form IRC3111A can be used.

How to change address

Is a virtual office OK for trademarks?

No. The Intellectual Property Department (IPD) does not accept a PO box or virtual office as the Hong Kong address for service. Provide a suitable address for service when you apply.
